At the Border

Jami Taback, Artists Statement, 2020

A few years ago drawings by the children in detention centers on the borders of the U.S caught my eye. I was taken with the crisscrossing lines permeating each drawing of their sad restrictive daily life. I have been obsessed with these images for the last 4 years. They too have taken over all other ideas and manifestations of my art just as they have become an important element in the children’s lives.

When I cannot accept this reality my hands set out to construct and deconstruct these lines on paper. The lines are not orderly but rather chaotic and difficult to follow, impossible to read. With each print imagery becomes more convoluted and navigating a way out that much more challenging.
